Secret schools in Afghanistan are necessary yet again. Rumi Secret Housing Project (renamed Rumi Legacy Schools) was established in response to the Taliban's renewed draconian restrictions in August 2021. Our Team traces its roots back to the pivotal year of 2001 when U.S. intervention in Afghanistan enabled millions of girls to gain access to education which the Taliban had forbidden in 1996. Faced with the challenge of preserving this hard-won progress, we embarked on a mission to support a crucial initiative: the Rumi Secret Housing Project (renamed Rumi Legacy Schools) clandestinely began hosting three schools for Afghan girls grades 7 - 12 and facilitating "paths forward" into higher education and work. Through individual fundraisers and the collective efforts of supporters we raised over $20,000 in 2023, providing education for 358 girls led by 15 women teachers across Kabul. Our efforts directly defy Taliban-imposed limitations and empower girls with the education they rightfully deserve.
Our approach is rooted in the belief that education is a fundamental human right that should be accessible to all regardless of gender or circumstance. We believe the urgent need of young Afghan women for education and self-determination must be met. We defy the Taliban's edicts and empower girls with the education and right to self-suffi

Your support advances our initiatives to challenge systemic barriers and promote gender equality through quality education. Our Team is committed to leveraging all available online and direct instruction methods and platforms, training our teachers and students in best teaching and learning practices and supporting our students' emotional resiliency, independence and "paths forward" by implementing the UN's Sustainable Development Growth (SDG) 4 & 5 practices and methods.

Our beneficiaries are the courageous Afghan citizens who have been unjustly banned from attending school and pursuing work opportunities and economic self-sufficiency following the Taliban's resurgence. Rumi Legacy Schools students hold a true thirst for knowledge and wisdom. Despite facing formidable barriers these resilient young women refuse to be silenced or sidelined. Through the Rumi Secret Housing Project (renamed Rumi Legacy Schools) we stand in solidarity with them, providing a lifeline of education and empowerment. Our teacher and student beneficiaries are not just recipients of our support, they are active participants in shaping their own futures. We are actively planning "paths forward" for these incredible young women and their future goals, including college placement, admission, scholarship and other career resources. Your contribution directly sustains their education, our advocacy for them and access to "path forward" resources. Together we are overcoming and defying Taliban-imposed restrictions and affirming their right to learn, grow and thrive in the face of adversity.
